BumpaBITS

According to the manufacturers these BumpaBITS are "Simple and humane" and they are certainly very popular. The central tab of the bit goes up into the birds mouth, while the two prongs locate into the back of the birds nostrils, holding it secure. The BumpaBIT allows the beak to close slightly more than the traditional beak bits, but the front acts as a "bumper" around the front of the beak. The tab stops the bird from pulling on feathers and the bumper stops the beak from making contact with another birds skin. Fitting can be tricky without some circlip pliers.

Colour : Black

Sizes :

25mm suitable for small to medium birds

30mm generally suitable for average sized poultry

35mm  generally suitable for large birds, pheasants and cockerels.

Please note, the manufacturers warn "for hopper/trough feeding only". This is because the BumpaBIT protrudes in front of the beak and will stop your birds from feeding from flat surfaces. You must supply pelleted or mash feed in a deep feeder or trough. Equally, the drinker must be of sufficient depth to ensure proper access to water.

If you are not sure how to fit a BumpaBIT, talk to someone who already uses them, search on-line for videos of how to fit them, or drop in and see us here at the Domestic Fowl Trust.

BumpaBITs should be fitted only to break the cycle of feather pecking. Once the habit is broken, the bit should be removed. Two or so weeks should be sufficient.
